251 Grant Street Gets Underway

A long deserted storefront on Grant Street is finally seeing new life. Slowly but surely, this commercial district is being buttoned up, one building at a time. It was back in January that I posted on Buffalo Cooperative Federal Credit Union scooping up 251 Grant Street, located directly across from Guercio’s. Now that project is underway, with a new glass shopfront being installed.
This is a big win for the street, because this building has been in a state of disrepair for years. The more of these “wins” that we see, the more chances that additional forlorn buildings will be addressed. There are still plenty of opportunities for investment on Grant Street – the time is now. Not only are the surrounding neighborhoods coming back to life, the infrastructure investments along Niagara Street will help to spur further investments Eastward, towards Grant Street.
We’ve seen a number of improvements on Grant Street over the last couple of years, but there’s still plenty of work to be done. This particular project was spearheaded with funding from Empire State Development Corporation and NYS Homes and Community Renewal via the Buffalo Billion – Better Buffalo Fund’s Buffalo Main Street Initiative Program, administered by Heart of the City Neighborhoods, Inc.
