Heart of the City Neighborhoods, Inc. is currently seeking to fill the position of Community Enrichment Coordinator.
Heart of the City Neighborhoods (HOCN), a 501(c)3 Community Development Corporation is seeking to hire a part-time Community Enrichment Coordinator starting September 1st, 2016.
This position will assist HOCN staff with its current affordable housing programs, focused on increasing access to safe, healthy, affordable housing opportunities for low-moderate income persons by increasing the quality of existing housing stock. The Community Enrichment Coordinator works within the Community Development Department and will report directly to the Executive Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
•Works at the community level, advocating for individual and community needs
•Represents HOCN at community meetings and events
•Cultural mediation between communities and housing resources
•Informal counseling and social support
•Gather data and write reports for target streets and neighborhoods
•Conduct assessment of properties and their condition in service area
•Complete monthly reporting on “problem” properties that are a nuisance to the neighborhood
•Keep ongoing tracking of problem properties and their status
•Participate in City of Buffalo Clean Sweeps
•Volunteer event planning and volunteer recruitment
•Provide customer service assistance to English- and Spanish-speaking clientele
•Provide translation assistance to program staff
•Other tasks assigned as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
•High School Diploma or GED or equivalent education.
•At least 1 year of experience working with the community.
•Ability to speak and read fluently in Spanish
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
The Community Development Coordinator has to have good listening and communication skills since the job calls for frequent interaction with people. Consequently, (s)he must have good interpersonal skills as well as the capacity to work in a multicultural setting. (S)he must be creative and flexible so as to accommodate diverse community development initiatives. The applicant must also possess:
•Excellent writing and communication skills
•Ability to work on multiple projects at once, with various dead lines
•Ability to work with a diverse range of people
•Organized, self-motivated and able to work independently on projects
•Highly organized
•Ability to successfully navigate a computer and the internet
•Proficient with Microsoft Excel
•Comfort with outreach and surveying neighborhoods independently
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
•Ability to work outside normal work hours including weekends and evenings as needed
•Valid NYS driver’s license, sufficient auto insurance and car required
•Travel by car to obtain information and/or attend meetings on an as needed basis
COMPENSATION:
Flexible, part-time 24 hours per week Monday-Friday.
Salary depending on experience.
