Cynthia Gardens Grand Opening Celebration
At 10:00am on Wednesday, July 17th, 2013, Heart of the City Neighborhoods, Inc. officially cut the ribbon on the Cynthia Gardens Apartments, located at 294 and 302 Hudson Street in Buffalo.
Following remarks from HOCN’s Board President Tim Favaro, Cynthia Garden Trust Fund Development Company’s Board President Manuel Rivera, Empire State Development’s Sam Hoyt, New York State’s Homes and Community Renewal’s Lenny Skrill, and Assemblyman Sean Ryan, a ribbon cutting was held with the tenants of the apartments followed by a tour of one of the apartments.
Wednesday’s ceremony marked the culmination of a six year and $1.5 million project to fill a large void in the Lower West Side community. In the mid 1890’s, a beautiful and luxurious apartment building was constructed at 294 Hudson Street called “The Valois.” Unfortunately, this 12 unit building burnt down in 2001 and was demolished. Since then, 294-302 Hudson Street had been a vacant lot. HOCN decided to reintroduce the original use of this land- residential rental housing. As a community development corporation, HOCN values quality affordable housing for all.
