ABOUT THE DESIGN
As you may know, “Me encanta” means “I love” in Spanish. These t shirts reflect how much we and our neighbors truly love our community. The Lower West Side was one of Buffalo’s first neighborhoods, traditionally where most of Buffalo’s early immigrant population settled in the years after the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825. Today, it’s one of Buffalo’s most ethnically and economically diverse neighborhoods.
Standing between Downtown Buffalo and the Historic Allentown and West Village Neighborhoods, the Lower West Side is home to many as well as a vibrant visitor destination. Preschool and after-school to college diploma; career training and fitness classes to assisted living; and pediatrics to emergency care- the Lower West Side offers support and services in education, enrichment, and health care. At the heart of the Lower West Side, Niagara Street is a state-designated road and a major artery between downtown, the Canadian border, and Buffalo’s northwestern neighborhoods and suburbs. From the Puerto Rican Day Parade to the ethnic shops and eateries, this culturally diverse block is full of bustling life and activity all year round!
Our Lower West Side T Shirts were designed by Neil Carroll and Deanna Hodge of Nickel City Graphics. Neil and Deanna note that this design “captures the diversity of the neighborhood, its unique geography and a heart graphic to tie it into one of the neighborhood’s driving forces- Heart of the City Neighborhoods.” Learn more about Nickel City Graphics and the great work they ‘re doing for area nonprofits by visiting their website. Neil Carroll is also a resident of the Lower West Side community.
A big thanks to Nickel City Graphics and You and Who for helping create these amazing t shirts!
