New Low-Income Apartments Open on West Side
By: Anna Hoffmann
BUFFALO, N.Y. — A vacant lot on the west side has been converted into eight low-income apartments.
There was an official ribbon cutting at the Cynthia Garden apartments Wednesday. The $1.5 million project was funded by state tax money, and only local companies and contractors worked on it.
Each apartment comes with all appliances, including a washer and dryer. The apartments also follow green building criteria and match the architecture of the neighborhood.
“We didn’t want to spare any expense,” said Stephanie Simeon, executive director of Heart of the City Neighborhoods, Inc. “These are working families, they work really hard, and we wanted to make sure they had the best housing available.”
A non-profit owns the apartments, so all rental fees will be used for property maintenance and improvements.
Elected officials say they want this effort to become a model for others in the future.
