Through the City of Buffalo, first-time homebuyers may be eligible to purchase an affordable vacant home with additional funding for home repairs.
Homegrown Homeownership Program
Are you a first time homebuyer looking to purchase a single or a double family home in the City of Buffalo? Income qualified, first time homebuyers may be eligible to purchase an affordable vacant home from the City of Buffalo Division of Real Estate and receive funding to make needed repairs to make the home code compliant and ready for move in. The City of Buffalo has a select inventory of homes available for sale at pre-established appraised values. These homes will need various levels of rehabilitation.
Assistance is only available for income eligible first-time homebuyers who are using a SONYMA Remodel NY Mortgage and looking to purchase a single or double family home from eligible properties at the City of Buffalo Division of Real Estate.
Are you eligible for assistance?
- Are you a first-time homebuyer (have never owned a home or have not owned a home during the past three years)?
- Do you have consistent income and a good credit score to be approved for a SONYMA Mortgage?
- Do you have a minimum of $1,000 towards the purchase of a home plus two months of mortgage payments in your savings?
- Does your annual, gross household income and asset value fall below the required income limits defined by HUD? (Please call our office for household income limit information)
If you can answer ‘YES’ to all of these questions, you may be eligible for assistance!
How can you apply?
Applicants are required to be prequalified for the SONYMA Remodel NY mortgage. Applicants are required to have completed a HUD Certified Homebuyer Education course Applicants will be required to submit supporting documentation to verify eligibility for the program. As of November 24th, 2020: Application intake has been paused for this program. The City of Buffalo’s Homegrown Program has a high volume of applicants and a limited number of homes available. No new applications are being processed until further notice. For updates, please call our office.
