Volunteers Needed!
Heart of the City Neighborhoods (HOCN) has two volunteer-driven events coming up this Spring, and we need YOUR help to make them a success! Volunteer-led community beautification projects help to revitalize and reinvest in communities that have experienced poverty and disinvestment. These projects go a long way to add investment, promote ongoing investment, create more attractive and healthy communities, affirm the personal dignity of residents, and boost and inspire neighborhood pride; efforts that have invaluable, meaningful short-term impacts purposed to insure long-term revitalization.
The Service Collaborative of WNY, Serve NY VISTA, and Heart of the City Neighborhoods, Inc. will be hosting a multi-site service project to honor Cesar Chavez and Earth Day, Friday, April 22nd, 2016. Cesar Chavez dedicated his life to improving the treatment, pay and working conditions of farm workers and immigrant populations. In remembrance of his legacy and similar efforts/activism for environmental justice, we will echo these passions for service on a project that is two-fold. Vive, Inc., a program run by Jericho Road Community Health Center, will be the site of various projects that aim to improve the quality of life for all those who find solace through Vive’s doors. At Vive, Inc., volunteers will help with a garden revitalization project, as well as some facility maintenance tasks that will greatly benefit current and future residents. Simultaneously, along the Niagara Street Corridor in Buffalo’s Lower West Side, volunteers will engage in a much-needed street and community clean-up, helping to give residents an inspiring start to spring. Just two weeks later, HOCN will be hosting a West Side Community Cleanup on Grant Street on Saturday, May 7th, 2016, from 9am-12pm. During this project, volunteers will clean-up trash and debris littered in the community, help in community gardens, and engage with community stakeholders to help beautify and improve neighborhoods, giving residents an inspiring start to spring. The community clean-up will take place on and around Grant Street, in the heart of Buffalo, New York’s vibrant West Side. Specifically, the community clean-up will cover the area of Grant Street between Lafayette Avenue and Bird Avenue, and many surrounding streets. To register to volunteer, click here!
